DALLA A a ... MARIE

First of all, thank you so much for allowing us to interview you and also for having convinced Angelo to answer our question.

3LS:Which element would you prefer to be: water, earth, wind or fire?
Angelo: Aria, così potrei andare ovunque.
Angelo: Wind, 'cause then I could go everywhere.

3LS: Come vi siete conosciuti?

3LS: How did you meet each other?
Angelo: Vuoi dire io e Marie?
Angelo: Me and Marie, you mean? She kind of opened the door when she was first writin' A to Z, but she thought the entire book would be from Zach's point of view. But then she was stumblin' over the middle of the book, feeling like a piece was missing, and one of her beta readers said she wanted to hear my side of things. Marie wasn't sure at first, but she finally asked me my opinion and... well, I guess I gave it to her. Once I started, she had a hell of a time shuttin' me up.

3LS: What’s the first thing you look for in a man?
Angelo: That's tough to answer, 'cause I don't really look anymore, you know? I guess I look for some sign that they don't have any way of hurtin' me.

3LS: L'amore vince sempre?

3LS: Does love always win?
Angelo: Non so se vince sempre, ma dovrebbe.
Angelo: I don’t know if it always does, but it should.

3LS: Perdoneresti un tradimento?

3LS: Would you forgive a betrayal?
Angelo: Il mio istinto mi direbbe no, ma poi penso a mia mamma.
Angelo: My gut instinct is to say no, but then I think about my mom. I haven't forgiven her completely. Not quite yet. But I imagine at some point I will. And if I can forgive what she did, then I guess I can forgive about anything.

3LS: Cos'è per te la sensualità?

3LS: What is sensual to you?
Angelo: When Zach kisses my palm. That's the most sensual thing in the world.

3LS: Qual è il tuo piacere proibito?

3LS: What’s your guilty pleasure?
Angelo: Vecchi musical e i nachos con molto peperoncino.
Angelo:Old musicals, and nachos with loads of jalapenos.

3LS: Have you ever done something that you regret and wished you hadn’t?
Angelo: Only about a thousand things. But way fewer of them now that I'm with Zach.

3LS: Ci puoi dire qual è il tuo film e romanzo preferiti?

3LS: Can you tell us what is your favorite novel and movie?
Angelo: Remember in A to Z, when Matt gave me a book, and I wasn't sure if I was smart enough to read it? Well, that book was Ender's Game, by Orson Scott Card. And I know Card's name is mud in the LGBT community, and with good reason, but I gotta tell you, bigot or not, that man can write. And that book... well, it changed my life. So it's definitely my favorite. As for movies, it's probably a toss-up between V for Vendetta and Gone with the Wind.

3LS: Between Jared, Matt and Zach, who’s the most fragile, the most stronger and the most patient?
Angelo: Zach's obviously the most patient because he puts up with me and hardly complains at all. As for the others...You know, the easy answer would be to say that Matt's the strongest, but I'm not sure it's true. When I think about what would happen if he ever lost Jared... it'd kill him. I don't think he'd ever recover. Now, if Jared lost Matt, he'd be devastated, of course. And I doubt he'd ever love another guy the way he loves Matt. But Jared would have enough of Matt left in his heart to go on, and I'm not sure that's true of Matt. I think taking Jared away from him would ruin him completely. So I guess that makes Jared the strong one, and Matt the fragile one.But you don't dare tell Matt I said that!

Thank you very much Angelo and please, promise us that you will give a big hug to Zach.

3LS: Did you always aspire to be a writer? And, how did your interest in writing originate?
Marie:I've been a voracious reader my whole life, but I never really intended to be an author. I wrote bad poetry in high school like everybody else, but that's about it. After college, I worked at an OB/Gyn office for eleven years. I quit in December 2008 to be a stay-at-home mom. The plan was that I'd be home for 1.5 years, until my daughter started first grade, and then I'd go back to work. But then in the spring of 2009, I woke up with an idea in my head. I started writing it, and that idea turned into Promises. At that point, my husband said, "Forget about going back to work. Write more books!"

3LS:Why did you choose this genre to write?
Marie: I'd been reading gay romance for about a year, and I guess my muse was ready to give it a shot.

3LS: What is your writing routine once you start a book?
Marie: I do my best work in the morning, but I have to get my kid out the door and off to school first. Depending on the day and how well the story's going, I may write for only an hour, or I may sit there all day. Most days, I'll write until shortly after lunch, then spend the afternoon dealing with housework or grocery shopping or dinner or doing mom stuff (like taking my daughter to soccer practice).

3LS: Come scegli le copertine dei tuoi libri?
3LS:How do you choose yours book’s cover?
Marie: It depends on the publishing house. Sometimes I have lot of say in what goes on the cover, and can talk to the cover artist about what I like or don't like. Other times, I have no say whatsoever.

3LS: Which novel was the most difficult to write?

Marie:Release (which I self-published in June under the name A.M. Sexton). I nearly gave up on it several times, but there were pieces of it I loved so much, I couldn't let it go. Start to finish, it took me two years to write (although admittedly, I stopped several times in the process to write other things). Also, it's a very dark book, so sometimes it was hard to put myself in that frame of mind for too long at a time. But I'm very proud of how it turned out. Incidentally, Release has now been signed by Triskell Edizioni for translation into Italian.

3LS:How much of your personality and life experience are in your writing?
Marie: None of the stories are specifically about me, and none of the characters are exactly me, but every one of them has at least one little tidbit that's me.

3LS: Can you tell us the review that hurt you the most?
Marie: I can't think of any specific ones (I've worked pretty hard to forget the bad ones!), but I think the most frustrating reviews are the ones where you can tell the reader was so busy looking for what they wanted to read or what they expected the story to be that they didn't bother to pay attention to the story I actually told.

3LS:To Italian readers, who have never read a m/m novel, what would you say to encourage them to read one?
Marie: Once you try it, you'll never go back. ;-) Seriously, though: I think some people assume all m/m is pornographic, but that's just not the case. Gay romance is just like traditional romance in that it spans the spectrum from squeaky clean to downright naughty. We have mysteries, science fiction, fantasy, historicals, steampunk.... Everything. Pick a subgenre, and it exists in m/m. So why not give it a shot?

3LS:Can you tell us one side of your character that you would like, but you can not change?
Marie: Sono totalmente negata a risolvere i conflitti.
Marie: I'm absolutely terrible at dealing with conflict. I think it's because I grew up as an only child, so I never had to learn to deal with small, petty arguments.

3LS: Last but not least, what can we expect from you in the future?
Marie: In inglese?

Witt.)
Marie: In English? I have the sequel to Release (called Return), which will be out... sometime. LOL. I have a fun little contemporary novella coming in April from Dreamspinner. It's part of a joint project with Amber Kell, RJ Scott, Amy Lane and Mary Calmes. And L.A. Witt and I will soon be writing a follow-up to Roped In, where Jackson gets his Happily Ever After. Now, in Italian: the rest of the Coda series will obviously be coming from Dreamspinner eventually (although I don't really know when). Also, in addition to Release, I've signed contracts with Triskell Edizioni for translation of Blind Space (kinky space pirates), Cinder (gay twist on Cinderella), and Roped In (cowboys and light BDSM, co-written with L.A. Witt).

Huge, huge thanks to you Marie for your time and your wonderful answer.
